The social tariff is a reduction in the cost of energy. Who can benefit?

In 2024, the reduction in the social energy tariff will still be 33.8%. Find out who can benefit.

A Government decree published this Monday, October 16 in the Official Gazette states that the Government will maintain the reduction of the social power rate at 33.8% for the year 2024. After all, who is eligible for this social tariff?

The social price of electricity, as stated in the order, aims to ensure access to this basic necessity for all, with emphasis on those families with greater economic needs.

To benefit from this tariff, it is essential that the consumer has an electricity supply contract in his name, intended exclusively for domestic use in his permanent residence, with a contracted electrical power at normal low voltage equal to or less than 6.9 kVA., according to the standard of the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG).

In addition, you must receive at least one of the following Social Security benefits:

• Social disability pension from the special disability protection plan or complement to the social benefit for inclusion;

• Social old-age pension;

• Social integration income;

• Unemployment benefits;

• Family allowance.

• Social Pension for Old Age; Social Disability Pension; Complement of the Social Benefit for Inclusion;

• Special Regime for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities.

There is also the possibility of taking advantage of this support, even if you do not receive any social benefit, if you are part of a household whose total annual income is equal to or less than € 6,272.64, plus 50% for each member of the household who does not have any income, including yours, up to a maximum of 10.

It should be noted that, for this purpose, the group of people constituted by the end customer and their dependents under the terms defined in the IRS code will be considered a household every year.
