During the Christmas season, Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, becomes a veritable paradise. The city provides a range of activities that encapsulate the spirit of the season, from Baixa's illuminated streets to parks turned into Christmas villages. Lisbon's Christmas markets, a custom that has grown in popularity, bring joy, colour, and light to the city.


Lisbon's principal Christmas markets

Lisbon's Christmas markets provide a range of distinct experiences, each with its own allure and distinctive qualities. These markets, which range from traditional to modern, turn the city into a must-see Christmas destination.


The majority of the Christmas markets and fairs that we often attend during this time of year are located in Lisbon. And these are only a few of the places you can go to shop for Christmas.


Christmas Market in Rossio

This city centre Christmas market, which has been open since November 15th, features 70 wooden kiosks selling crafts, a variety of Christmas-themed drinks, and other treats. A captivating trip on the free Christmas Train, which travels through the most famous locations in Baixa Pombalina, and a Christmas exhibition on display at Hospital das Bonecas over the holiday season. On December 23rd, the Rossio Christmas market ends.


Wonderland Lisbon

One of the biggest and most well-liked Christmas markets in the city is Wonderland Lisboa, which is situated in Parque Eduardo VII. With an ice rink, carousels, and craft booths that entertain guests of all ages, this market is a genuinely enchanting place. This Christmas market will provide a wide range of activities for both adults and children from November 29 to January 5, 2025.


The Alvalade Christmas Market, located on Avenida da Igreja, will reopen on December 6th, providing you with the best chance to purchase the finest Christmas presents.There will be plenty of traditional Christmas treats, including the delectable Óbidos ginjinha, at the culinary vendors till December 17th.


Lumiar's Grande Arraial

The popular Grande Arraial do Lumiar is hosting its first Christmas edition, and this year it will be decked out in holiday splendour so that all families can take part in the many events. Jardim Caldeira Cabral will be split up into multiple spaces for entertainment and socialising from December 6 to December 29. One of these spaces will be a full-scale Christmas market with numerous artisan vendors where you may shop.


Christmas Gourmet Figueira

Praça da Figueira will be teeming with the finest Christmas fare from November 21 to December 21. This season, nine famous chefs—two of whom are master chocolatiers—will be contributing to the festivities.


Figueira Christmas Gourmet is currently in its 12th year, and all families can anticipate a lot of surprises and pleasures this year. It's free to enter.


Designer jewellery, handmade goods, and Christmas decorations will all be available at the Santa Clara Christmas Market, Jardim João Botto Machado, which will bring together outstanding artists from December 19 to 23. Additionally, there are workshops for all ages where you can learn how to make your own handcrafted items, such as personalised Christmas cards, kid-friendly educational games, and even how to make a vegan dinner on Christmas Eve.


In addition, there are children's theatres and comedy shows at the São Vicente Comedy Club, as well as the Enchanted Forest, the snow cannon, inflatable toys, and Santa Claus's house.


Mirante de São Pedro de Alcântara's Christmas Market

The streets of Bairro Alto will be decked out in Christmas decorations for the first time this year. With a focus on fado nights, live performances by saxophonist and cultural entertainer Ana Leite Faria and Rauly Reys, and Santa Claus beside the 11-meter mega Christmas tree that will be placed in the gazebo, this market offers a range of activities from December 1st to January 6th.
